Women tend to be very particular about their hair. It is, after all, their crowning glory. Hair care is, therefore, an important part of most women's beauty regimin. Women like me, with extremely baby fine hair, face a particular problem because using the wrong hair care products will make our hair flatten out and look lifeless and dull. Consequently, many of us have have tried every hair care system on the market. The truth is that many of them are pretty good - - in one certain area, but none seem to accomplish everything that we want and need. For example, Fructrise is great at taming frizzy, dry, unmanageable hair; Pantene is good for giving the appearance of healthier looking hair; Dove is excellent for softening the hair, etc. But it is impossible to find hair care systems that do everything. Therefore, it becomes necessary to pick and choose which aspects of the hair we want to tame or which ones we want to highlight. Because I have baby fine hair, it appears thin and wispy. In reality, I have a lot of hair; it just has to be plumped up to give it the appearance of being thicker. I have found two hair care systems that accomplish this quite well: Signature Club A's Vitamin Complex and Nick Chavez's Plump 'N Thick. Signature Club A's Vitamin Complex comes in a one, two punch with a thickening shampoo and a thickening styling gel. The system contains a combination of ingredients including vitamins, minerals, oils, and vegetable protein. It creates a thickening effect by wrapping the hair in an invisible gel. It immediately plumps up the volume of thin, lifeless hair and gives it a noticeable body boost by creating a fuller appearance and improving overall texture. Vitamin Complex shampoo/conditioner lathers richly while gently and thoroughly cleaning and effectively conditioning the hair. It comes in a 16 fl. oz. bottle, which lasts a long time since it only takes about a quarter's size amount of product to thoroughly clean the hair. The Vitamin Complex thickening gel also includes alpha hydroxy and retinol in a 8 fl. oz. bottle. Again, it only takes about a quarter's size amount or product to prepare the hair for styling. The duo can be ordered together or the products can be purchased separately. I usually order mine as a set at a cost of about $20. While obviously, that is a little more expensive than other department store hair care systems, it is well worth the extra money for what it accomplishes in the condition, look, and feel of fine, limp hair. Vitamin Complex can be purchased through Signature Club A on-line as well as through television on the the Home Shopping Network. Nick Chavez's Plump 'N Thick system comes as a kit that includes thickening shampoo, cream, mist with collagen, spray gel, and hair spray. While it is possible to use pieces of the kit alone, it actually works best if used in conjunction with one another. The thickening shampoo comes in a 8.5 oz bottle and requires about a half-dollar size amount to lather and cleanse the hair; rinsing and repeating at least once. The Plump 'N Thick thickening cream comes in a 8.5 oz bottle. It requires between a quarter and half-dollar size amount, depending on the length and texture of the hair. All you do is put it in and continue to style or let the hair dry naturally. The cream helps to hydrate and expand the hair cuticle. Fortifying levels of whole wheat protein, panthenol, and selected botanicals help to inhibit breakage and infuse the hair with shine and manageability. The Plump 'N Thick thickening mist with collagen also comes in a 8.5 oz bottle. The combination of collagen, selected botanicals, and antioxidants fatten, strengthen, and enrich the hair. It encourages thicker, more voluminous locks without any heaviness or buildup, infusing every strand with thickness and incredible body. The Plump 'N Thick thickening spray gel adds volume and thickness to any hairstyle. It combines collagen, selected botanicals, and antioxidants that work together to fatten, strengthen, and enrich the hair. It's ideal for blow-drying, finger styling, curly hair, and roller sets. Finally, the Plump 'N Thick thickening hair spray - - the best hairspray on the market - - enlivens, strengthens, and enriches the hair to give in volume and bounce. Its combination of collagen, aloe vera, selected botanicals, and antioxidants provides a truly firm hold with just a light misty spray. It does not buildup or leave the hair weighed down. It is possible to purchase Nick Chavez products on-line through several sites as well as through television's QVC. They can be purchased individually or as a total kit. Obviously, the kit format is more cost effective between $45 and $50. Of the two product lines, overall I prefer Signature Club A. It accomplishes the same kind of fullness in my hair with just two products that Nick Chavez does with four; making it the most cost effective of the two hair care systems. However, keep in mind that Signature Club A does not provide a thickening hairspray like Chavez and I cannot sufficiently stress how amazing Nick's hairspray truly is. It adds so much volume without appearing that the hair has any kind of spray on it at all. Head to head, here is how the two product lines fall out: Packaging Appearance goes to Nick Chavez. His products have a slightly more attractive product, color bottle shape, and overall package. The kit is extremely well packaged, oftentimes including one of Nick's fabulous hair brushes as a bonus. Cost Effectiveness goes to Signature Club A. It only takes two products to do what Chavez's line needs four to accomplish. Shampoo Effectiveness goes to Signature Club A. It cleanses well, rinses out easily, and does indeed make my hair appear thicker. While Chavez's shampoo works well too, I find it leaves a slight residue on my hair that its competitive product does not. Gel Effectiveness goes to Signature Club A. It takes very little to achieve the volume and style you want. While Chavez's gel works well too, it takes far more product and, again, leaves a bit of residue behind that fine hair like mine just cannot handle. Hairspray Effectiveness goes to Nick Chavez because Signature Club A doesn't have one. Not that it would matter; Nick's hairspray is unbeatable! Overall Product Effectiveness goes to Signature Club A. It works beautifully and doesn't seem to diminish over time like some products do. While I love both hair care systems, I simply can't afford Nick Chavez now that I no longer pull in the big bucks. And the truth is, Signature Club A works just as well at about half the price. |
